Biography

Dr. Aleodor (Doru) Andea received his MD from “Victor Babes” University of Medicine, Timisoara, Romania in 1995. After completing 4 years of Orthopedic Surgery Residency in Romania he came to United States in 1999 to start an Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Residency at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. This was followed by fellowships in Oncologic Pathology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering, New York, NY (2003-2004), Dermatopathology at Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, SC (2004-2005) and Molecular Pathology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering, New York, NY (2005-2006). He joined the faculty of the Department of Pathology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) as an Assistant Professor in July 2006 and spent six years at that institution, where he participated actively in teaching and clinical activities in Dermatopathology and Molecular Pathology. From 2008 he served as Director of the Dermatopathology Fellowship program as well as Medical Director of the In-situ Hybridization Laboratory and from 2009 as Dermatopathology Section Head. In 2009 Dr. Andea received the “Leonard H. Robinson” Award for Excellence in Resident Education in Anatomic Pathology. In 2010 Dr. Andea was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor. At UAB Dr. Andea developed a research interest in the molecular biology of melanocytic neoplasms and precision molecular diagnostic tests for histologically ambiguous melanocytic tumors. While at UAB, Dr. Andea earned a Master of Business Administration degree from UAB School of Business (2007-2010).
